Worship Themes for Holy Week

MARCH 24
PALM/PASSION SUNDAY

Texts: Luke 19:28-40 & Luke+22:39-23:49

Passion

In worship today, we will move from the joyous shouts of "Hosannah" to hearing
the story of betrayal, abandonment, torture and death that Jesus experienced in
his journey to the cross. His suffering is the suffering we see in our world
today in the lives of the poor and abandoned. The cross reminds us of the cost
of sinfulness--exploitation, chaos, violence and death. This is not a pretty
picture, but it is the truth. We come together on this Sunday to witness to the
truth, so that we might be set free again and given courage in our days ahead.

Please join us in the sanctuary at 7pm.

MARCH 29
GOOD FRIDAY

Please join us and Heeding God's Call in observing Good Friday at a city-wide
ecumenical service to worship in prayer, music, scripture and the word;
remember the suffering and violence of Good Friday and grieve for those killed
by guns in the Philadelphia region; and heed God’s call to act together for an
end to gun violence, particularly for the children.

MARCH 31
EASTER SUNDAY

Texts: Psalm 118:1-2, 14-24 & John 20:1-18

Resurrection

"I have seen the Lord, I have seen the Lord!" These are the words of Mary
Magdalene, uttering the unbelievable. She proclaims to the depressed,
fearful disciples and to the world, that death--in all its destructive
forms--is not the final answer. "Death has been swallowed up in victory,"
says the prophet Isaiah and Paul in I Corinthians. Can we hear this
unbelievable news again? Join us for worship on this Resurrection Sunday.
