Worship Theme for February 17

FEBRUARY 17
FIRST SUNDAY IN LENT

Texts: Deuteronomy 26:1-11 & Luke 4:1-13

Wilderness

The gospel of Luke tells us that Jesus is full of the Holy Spirit as he is led
into the wilderness and tempted by the devil. In the Hebrew Scriptures, the
wilderness is a place of wandering, struggle and hostility. And yet, it is in
the wilderness where the people of God grow in their awareness of themselves
and in their trust of Yahweh. The sacred stories from Deuteronomy and Luke guide
us to reflect on what it means to be led by the Spirit, to grow in our awareness
of ourselves and to deepen our walk with God.

We will also be distributing the One Great Hour fish banks this Sunday and
receiving two new members of the congregation.
